The Federal Reserve is developing a new round-the-clock payment and settlement service, called the FedNow Service, to support instant payments in the United States.
The Federal Reserve Payments Study
The initial release of 2018 to 2021 data reveals substantial growth in consumers’ and businesses’ use of noncash payments, including checks, different types of cards, and the automated clearinghouse (ACH). Cards led growth by number while ACH led growth by value.
